The kibble your puppy will be on is called Purina pro plan toy breed puppy!
The must haves:
Quality Puppy chow, quality canned puppy food, bed, food & water dishes, pee pads, chew toys, Nutri-Cal Puppy, plush toys, puppy Shampoo, a Vet To care for your puppy, crate, and cat-clips nail Clippers (you can buy cat clippers at the dollar tree that work perfect). When you bring your new puppy home it is very important to show him/her where the food, water, and pee pads are. It is less stressful on the puppy if they have their own space that they can claim as their own! We recommend searching amazon for a puppy playpen!! We like to use one that is easy to step over to easily pick up pee pads & clean. Food and water should be available to your puppy at all times!!
Stress:
It is very important to encourage them to eat during their transition. Sometimes it is very hard on young puppies when coming to their new home so it is very important that they get adequate nutrition. I also like to give them 2 tablespoons full of can food or chicken baby food before putting them to sleep at night and first thing in the morning (these are the times that they are most likely to get hypoglycemic) If your puppy is not eating call your vet. Provide small quantities of quality can food spread throughout the day or moistened kibble in water to encourage eating.
You Must monitor Food & Water intake and provide food & water at all times especially when your puppy is young!
Grooming:
Your hairless puppy may need an occasional bath with an all natural shampoo. We recommend Burts Bees baby wash sold at any grocery store or Pro Pet works Oatmeal pet wash organic shampoo+conditioner (amazon). This should be no more than 2x a month. They can also benefit from lotion or coconut oil to prevent dry skin. Your puppy may need baby sunblock or protective clothing if they will be in the sun for a long period of time. Be sure to keep the ears clean and free of infection, but do not get water in them. They should be cleaned if you see any dirt in your puppies ears. If there is an odor coming from the ears I suggest calling your vet as it could be indicative of an infection or other serious problem.
Remember to trim your puppy's toe nails monthly. I recommend little cat clips from the dollar tree.
Health Care:
Your puppy comes with it's first puppy shot only. Remember to keep up with & complete your puppy's booster shots. (You will be responsible for 2 more boosters after you bring home your puppy). You should start your puppy on monthly heart-worm prevention. Your dog should be de-wormed once a year. Your hairless puppy should NOT need flea prevention!! If you notice fleas you might want to consider treating your back yard instead of your dog. Sometimes small chihuahuas can have a bad reaction to the harsh chemicals found in flea treatments. Blue dawn dish soap is a safe way to rid of fleas for coated puppies. If flea prevention is essential I would recommend revolution RX from your vet.
Please remember DO NOT to let your puppy visit public places (petsmart/doggie parks) until 3-4 weeks AFTER he/she is FULLY vaccinated!! Keep eating areas clean, fly free, and bedding sanitized weekly.
